MCTA is pleased to offer a Tennis Ladder Program for both Adults and interested Juniors. The Ladder Program offers an easy, flexible way for players to arrange more competitive match play. Currently, more than 130 players participate. Click here to go to the Ladder Program's homepage for complete information on the program.
Fundamentally, the Ladder Program operates from April through October. Players pay a one-time fee to join a specific Ladder, which pays for MCTA's costs in reserving indoor court time for ladder matches (although players are free to play elsewhere if they choose). As more fully described on the Tennis Ladders homepage, each ladder is organized as a "pyramid." The top tier, Tier 1, will have only one player in it, which will be the current ladder leader. Tier 2 will have the two players in positions 2&3 on the ladder. Tier 3 will have the players in positions 4,5&6 on the ladder. Tier 4 will have the players in positions 7,8,9,&10 on the ladder. And so on... Players may challenge any player within their own Tier and the two Tiers above them. To make a challenge, a player logs in to the Tennis Ladders website and initiates an electronic (e-mail) challenge to a specific player/doubles team. Any challenge made according to the rules must be accepted by the person being challenged and a match scheduled within 10 days, otherwise a default is declared. The player who is challenged must offer two reasonable dates, times and locations for the challenge match to be played. If the challenger wins the match, they take the ladder position held by his/her opponent and the opponent drops down one position. All other players are adjusted down accordingly. If the challenger loses the match, no change in ladder position is made for either player.
