2008 Local League Girevance Committee and Grievance Appeals Committee Members

The following individuals have been approved by Mid-Atlantic Section for service on the 2008 MCTA Grievance or Grievance Appeals Committee. Note that not all committee members hear every grievance/appeal. National rule requires a minimum of 3 persons to adjudicate grievances/appeals. In each case, the Committee Chair determines which committee members will hear a particular grievance/appeal after considering potential conflicts and member availability.

Remember: Player limitation Rules Applies to All Leagues

Team Captains:

Mid-Atlantic Section Rule #10 (the so-called “2-player rule”) has been revised for 2008 and now applies to all leagues, regardless of whether they are "advancment" or "non-advancement" leagues. Remember also that the rule applies within the same season and Division but not across seasons or Divisions (in USTA League Tennis terminology, a “Division” is Adult, Senior, or Mixed Doubles).

For non-advancment leagues only (e.g., MCTA's Fall Combo and Fall Mixed, or Winter Ladies Day League), the 2-player restriction applies only within the same District. In other words, more than 2 players can be on the same team in such leagues if one team is in Maryland and the other team is in Virginia, Washington, DC or West Virginia; but only 2 players can be members of the same Fall team in Montgomerry County and, say, Howard County.

Player Deletion Policy and Procedures

In the event you need to delete a player from your roster, these policies and procedures apply!

  1. Complete a Player Deletion Form. Be certain to complete it in its entirety; in order to process it, the players full name, USTA Membership Number, Team Code and Captain’s Name all must be legible and accurate. Save the form to your hard drive first; then complete it.
  2. E-mail the completed document as an attachment to MCTA Leagues Coordinator Carol Cohen (ccohen@mctatennis.org) with a copy to your level coordinator. (If you prefer to print the form and mail it, contact Carol for mailing instructions.)
Note that if the player has not played in any matches, MCTA will always refund its $10 administrative fee. The Maryland District will refund its $18 fee only before season’s start; thereafter, no refund is available except for extenuating circumstances acceptable to the District. The TennisLink user fee (currently $3) is never refundable.

Remember that once the Captain signs the Player Deletion form, the player is no longer eligible to participate in match play and “deletions” cannot be reversed.

Be Careful when you Renew your USTA Membership…  League players who need to renew their USTA Memberships before joining a team this year should take care when doing so. Be certain to always use/state your “old” membership number when renewing, even if it has lapsed for some time.

USTA’s membership database is not sophisticated enough to recognize you as a former member simply by using your name and address. It assumes you are a brand-new member, with no player history. Hence, when it assigns you a new Membership Number, all your existing data – such as NTRP Rating – is not automatically transferred.

Because this “glitch” in the system could be abused, Mid-Atlantic Section League rules provide for player disqualification for 12 months if it can be shown that a player has acquired or used a different Membership Number for purposes of evading his/her computer rating. So when renewing your Membership on-line, always be sure to input your “old” Membership number. If renewing on the telephone, be sure to state you previously had a Membership Number and ask the agent to search for it.
